I read The Yucatan Times article: “Survey says U.S. voters believe Joe Biden is too old to run for re-election” (Sept 5th issue).
As an American voter, I tend to agree. I bear no ill toward Mr. Biden or any other elected or appointed official. However, there comes a time when cognitive decline sets in, and the nation and the world are deserving of fit and alert lawmakers who can respond promptly and accurately to sudden developments and adapt accordingly.
Mr. Biden, at age 80 is not alone. Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell has had at least two freeze-ups on camera in which he appeared to be dazed and unresponsive for several minutes. While I thank the leaders for their past service, it is imperative that a younger generation of capable leaders steps forward. Cognitive impairments are serious business. Government is not the place for geriatric infirmities to manifest themselves in crucial scenarios.
Sincerely,
