A couple got engaged in front of President López Obrador. This is what happened.
Last weekend President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was in the Yucatán Peninsula, on a tour that included the first test run of the Tren Maya and the inauguration of Chichén Viejo archaeological zone right next to Chichén Itzá.
Exactly at this point is where an episode that went viral on social networks took place: a couple got engaged in the presence of the president, who was even invited to the wedding.
Through TikTok, the recording was broadcast on the account of the user @anacalvillotiktok, who turned out to be the young woman surprised by her now fiancé. The young man gave her a wedding ring in front of López Obrador, with whom they coincided in the Mayan zone of Chichén Itzá.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador went to the site as part of his working tour. At a certain moment he was intercepted by a group of supporters, who approached the vehicle in which he was traveling to greet him.
From the crowd, a young man told him “Andrés Manuel, I am going to commit myself today in front of you, the best president”.
Immediately, the man introduced him to his future wife. “I am going to get engaged to Ana Calvillo, she is a psychologist. She is the best woman in the world,” the man shouted to attract AMLO’s attention.
The strategy worked and López Obrador asked the young man to hand over the ring right away: “Give her the ring now” Lopez Obrador said. Without thinking twice, the woman said yes.

“They’re getting married!” celebrated the president of Mexico, who was also invited to the couple’s wedding.
In a memorable moment, Ana Calvillo and her future husband got engaged in Chichén Itzá, and with the president as witness.
The reactions from TikTok users were varied:
- “I want to live that dream too”,
- “Honeymoon on the Maya Train”
- “The best proposal in history”
- “With the boss’s blessing”
- “Surreal Mexico”
Those were just some of the hundreds of comments that the publication received on social networks
As we reported, the President inaugurated the archaeological section of Chichen Viejo on Saturday, September 2nd, an event that started three and a half hours late due to the slow pace of the Maya Train.
After apologizing for the long delay, President López Obrador stated in his message that the Maya Train is a social, economic and tourism project of the modern era, “forged from below” and will benefit everyone.
