Yucatan recorded the best August in its history in terms of air passenger movement, by receiving 327,189 travelers at Merida’s International Airport “Manuel Crescencio Rejon”, it was reported on Friday, September 8th, in a press release.
Last month’s figures represent a 17.33% growth over the same period in 2022.
Official data show that the entity is having a historic year, reaching eight months with the highest figures in passenger movement by air.
So far this year, the total movement of passengers has been 2,435,612, the highest amount since records have been kept, and with an accumulated growth of 28.74% with respect to the same period of the previous year, so that August was among the 8 months with the highest movement in said terminal.
In addition, the region’s air connections have increased with the inauguration of direct routes: Guanajuato-Merida, operated by Volaris and Viva Aerobus, as well as Merida-Guatemala and Merida-Flores, operated by TAG Airlines, with 4 and 3 flights a week, respectively, and competitive fares.
Furthermore, the territory has a new Viva Aerobús operational base or hub at the airport, with which 3 aircraft spend the night in the Yucatan capital, increasing connectivity and generating 600 jobs, both direct and indirect.
The state is also linked through 11 domestic routes to cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Veracruz, Villahermosa, Tijuana and Oaxaca, and in the remainder of this year, Toluca, Leon and Querétaro will be added; likewise, it has 8 international routes to Toronto, Canada; Houston, Miami, Dallas and Oakland, in the United States; Havana, Cuba, and both Guatemala City and Flores, Guatemala.
