05/09/2023 | Cancun, Quintana Roo.- José Carlos Azcárraga, CEO of Grupo Posadas, announced that new investments will be made in the Mexican Caribbean, in addition to the new Live Aqua Riviera Cancun and Fiesta Americana Riviera Cancun hotels, of which the first stone was laid this Tuesday, trusting in the growth of the destination.

This Tuesday morning Posadas and Grupo Xtra laid the first stone of these two projects, with an investment of 300 million dollars and whose operation is scheduled for the end of 2026 and mid 2027, respectively.

“For Posadas Quintana Roo has always been a super strategic region, we already have 13 hotels in operation, representing 2,777 rooms with the seven brands (they manage)… with these hotels (the two under construction) we are going to grow our hotel offer 25 percent. We are also contemplating another 30 hotels under development, of which six or seven are here in Quintana Roo,” he said.

Some of the new lodging centers under development will be for the beach area and others for the cities, hotels that could take from two to four years to be completed, located from Cancun to Riviera Maya and Tulum.

This growth is thanks to the excellent tourism performance achieved, with occupancies at high and historic levels, with averages of 70 percent, in combination of city and beach hotels, although the latter reach averages of up to 80 percent.

“The clientele that is coming to the state, particularly from the United States and Canada, which are the main ones, are coming, buying more activities, living more experiences, spending more money and that gives us a lot of potential to be more profitable… The reality is that we are at historic levels in terms of what the area can produce,” said the interviewee.

Luxury segment: in potential growth

In addition, he said, the luxury segment is growing exponentially and proof of this is that 2021 was the best year in history for luxury resorts, 2022 broke records and it is expected that 2023 will be even better.

Regarding the groundbreaking ceremony of the Live Aqua Riviera Cancun and Grand Fiesta Americana Riviera Cancun All Inclusive Resort & Spa hotels, the hotel executive said that they reaffirm their commitment to social development and economic growth in the regions where they are present.

The event was attended by the governor of the state, Mara Lezama Espinosa; the mayor of Benito Juárez, Ana Patricia Peralta de la Peña; Alberto and Manuel Saba, from Grupo Xtra; Enrique Calderón, vice president of hotel operations at Posadas; and Mauricio Elizondo, director of hotel development at Posadas.
