They are requesting an investigation into several cases of women who have had attempts on their lives in Yucatán that could have been considered as femicides.
In this regard, the representative of the Citizen Observatory on Femicide in the state, Adelaida Salas Salazar, relative of one of these people, requested support to clarify the circumstances in which their cases originated, as they warned of indications that they were victims of an act of violence that was classified not as attempted femicide but as another type of crime.
“There are a good number of cases that were classified as attacks, but should be catalogued as femicides. Three years ago we began to notice this situation, how they are being passed off as such. So, what can we do, this is very delicate”, she pointed out.
Sala Salazar continued saying that there are 12 cases of women’s relatives who allegedly attempted against their lives, in which it is clear that the person was a victim of violence, although the authorities catalogued the cause of death in a different way, due to the circumstances in which the deceased was found.
Given this, the Citizen Observatory on Femicide urged to establish a Context Analysis Unit to investigate the crimes, as well as a subcommittee for the attraction of the cases in which the femicides are presumed to have occurred in order to clarify the situation.
“They are doing this to keep the families calm, but the reality is that many deaths of women in violent circumstances are not properly investigated and are not considered as femicides, which is an injustice. This is a very serious matter. In the last meeting I asked and they told me that the subcommittee is approved but we do not see anything clear, the cases have not been taken up”, she remarked.
It was reported that, for now, the State Attorney General’s Office performs psychological necropsies of the cases of people who make attempts on their lives, although it was insisted that there needs to be a real protocol to establish the crime.
