Wendy Guadalupe G. H., 16 years old, was killed with a sharp weapon – an ice pick – as she was leaving a quinceañera party in the Santa María neighborhood in Tehuantepec, Oaxaca.

Local police reported that the underage girl was walking with her friends when a man approached her and attacked her with an ice pick, injuring her in the abdomen and causing bleeding.

Her companions – also young people – sought help from rescue teams and the municipal police, but as no assistance arrived, and in desperation at seeing her bleeding, they transported her to a medical unit on motorbikes. However, by the time they arrived, Wendy had already passed away.

The young woman was originally from the Santa Cruz Tagolaba neighborhood, so her friends and family are demanding justice and punishment for the feminicide perpetrator, who is still unidentified.

On social media, this feminicide has also sparked anger and outrage because the young woman was a high school student with many dreams to fulfill, but her life was taken away.

Educational authorities from Preparatoria 4, part of the Benito Juárez University of Oaxaca (UABJO), expressed their condolences and reiterated the demand for justice in the wake of this feminicide.

“We urge the swift resolution of this heinous crime. Rest in Peace, Wendy Guadalupe.”

Her classmates also demanded justice through social media and called on educational authorities to organize a march this Monday so that the young woman’s feminicide does not go unpunished.

According to the feminist collective Ges Mujer, there have been 73 feminicides so far in 2023, including the one of Cecilia, a 30-year-old that occurred 10 days ago in Unión Hidalgo, Oaxaca, also in the Istmo de Tehuantepec, which remains unsolved.
