A 27-year-old young man died on Friday, October 13 after receiving multiple bee stings while working in the fields between San José Tzal and Texan Cámara, in the municipality of Mérida.

The events occurred around 3 in the afternoon, when José Eduardo M.C.  was clearing the jungle in that area.

At a certain moment, he encountered a swarm of African bees that had emerged from a nearby apiary. They attacked José, who tried to run but received hundreds of stings that left him unconscious.

His colleagues called 911, so firefighters and paramedics from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) arrived at the scene.

The firefighters managed to fight the bees and reach the young man, but they could only confirm he had already died.

The police secured the area and reported it to the Public Ministry, so personnel from the Institute of Forensic Sciences and the Expert Services of the State Attorney General’s Office arrived at the scene to carry out the corresponding work.

The body was taken to perform a legal autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

A woman who identified herself as Gloria arrived at the scene, and identified the body as her husband.
