So far, 525 mastographies have been performed, in addition to 1,420 breast examinations for poor women in more than 14 municipalities and 20 police stations in Yucatán, revealed the president of the Tócate Foundation, Alejandra Gutiérrez Blanco, during October, now known as the “Pink Month”.

So far this year, 357 people have been detected with breast cancer, more than 98 percent of them women; but only in the last week five were diagnosed with the disease, according to the Ministry of Health, so Gutiérrez Blanco warned that the issue is worrying if we take into account that the malignant breast tumor is the main cause of death in women.

“The complication is that 70 percent of the cases are detected late and only 30 percent are detected early.”

He commented that, within the month of October, several activities will be carried out to commemorate the ephemeris, for example, several municipalities will be painted pink, not only as part of solidarity, but also to commemorate those who have died from this disease.

“In this Pink Month, we have carried out several activities related to the fight against breast cancer, we have already illuminated several municipal palaces such as Merida, Progreso, Ticul and in the coming days we will illuminate Tizimín and Tekax. In addition, we will continue to give talks to raise awareness in public and private companies, we are going to have the Tócate race-walk on October 29th”.

She commented that the municipalities of Kanasín and Progreso are where more cases were detected in 2022, so the Tócate Foundation is carrying out actions to raise awareness and instill a culture of prevention in the interior of the state.

“We are signing renewal agreements with the municipalities to work hand in hand and continue supporting women in the interior of the state, not only by providing them with information, but also with health services, where we are even providing transportation in case it is required,” she said.
