By 2025, Costa Mujeres, one of the fastest growing destinations in the last 5 years, will have 12 thousand more rooms, with the investments of chains that continue to bet on Quintana Roo.

Ramón Rosello, president of the Costa Mujeres Hotel Association, detailed that by the end of 2023 a total of nine thousand rooms will have been added, while for the next two years an additional three thousand will be built by groups such as Riu, H10, Catalonia and Palladium, who are betting on tourism with high purchasing power.

“This was a very positive year with a good number of closings in the rooms that are added to the catalog, and this leads to the fact that investments can continue to be added for the coming years, being a boom in the destination that remains important,” he explained.

The acceptance in the Costa Mujeres market is what leads the chains to continue detonating tourism, maintaining the highest occupancies.

Currently there are around 19 hotels with 8,900 rooms, but before the end of 2023 they will reach a little more than 9,000, making it the leader in occupancy in the Mexican Caribbean, with an average annual occupancy rate of 80%.

“The brands that are investing have hotels in other destinations and it is the Mexican Caribbean that allows us to lead in rates, which are above average, although there are still great challenges in infrastructure,” he explained.

Many of the lodging centers, in addition to luxury and gastronomy, offer activities for guests to have a different stay, since they also attract sports tourism, since they have one of the best golf courses, in addition to wellness travelers.

According to numbers from the Ministry of Tourism, up to the first semester of this year, Quintana Roo had an offer of 128 thousand 166 hotel rooms, a growth of 24.5% against the 102 thousand 890 that there were in 2018.

The municipality of Isla Mujeres, where Costa Mujeres is located, is the second with the second highest increase in supply, of 100% in the last five years, going from four thousand 984 in 2018 to nine thousand 934 in 2023.
