The 39th edition of the Autumn Cultural Festival, the most important festival in the southeastern region of Mexico, kicked off last night with a concert by the Yukalpetén Typical Orchestra (OTY) in the newly designated Magical Town of Tekax.

Loreto Villanueva Trujillo, the head of the Ministry of Culture and the Arts (Sedeculta), recognized the artistic careers of creators with over five decades of experience, such as actor Francisco Ríos “Zapote” (73 years), troubadour Gregorio Brito (67 years), actress Bárbara Fox (50 years), set designer Manuel Encalada González (50 years), singer Mauricio González, and actors Octavio Ayil Ortega and Sergio Cámara Gurbiel, to whom she presented an award.

During the inauguration and in the company of the mayor of the town, Diego Ávila Romero, the official highlighted the pride of “being part of this arduous work to strengthen access to culture and art for everyone through the 172 activities we have prepared for more Yucatecan families to enjoy our cultural expressions.”

She added, “Culture has always flowed naturally in our state, and we carry it in our blood and dreams as well. It is the light that governs our souls, and the celebration of the Autumn Cultural Festival 2023 is the best example of how natural it is for us to participate in these activities and, above all, to live culture and art to the fullest in social harmony.”

She also expressed gratitude to the 29 municipalities that have joined, saying, “Thanks, Tekax. This is a genuine cradle of artists, of unforgettable music, and it always welcomes us with open arms, the embrace of its hospitality. We always feel very happy to come to this beautiful and historic Hermitage of San Diego, to this beautiful city, and together we will enjoy the beginning of autumn.”
