The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) becomes once again the center of a celebration that fuses the culture, history and spirituality of an entire country, La Mega Ofrenda UNAM.
Every year, members of the different schools, faculties, institutes and divisions of UNAM come together to give life to the spectacular Mega Ofrenda, an event that transcends borders and immerses us in the depths of the Day of the Dead tradition.
On this occasion, the Mega Ofrenda UNAM will focus on honoring the legacy of women scientists and artists. If you would like to be part of this celebration, here are all the details so you can plan your visit.
When and where will the Mega Ofrenda UNAM 2023 take place?
The mega ofrenda will be placed at the Olympic Stadium in Ciudad Universitaria and will be available to the general public on November 1 and 2. Access hours for both days will be from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.
In addition to a wide range of cultural activities and the exhibition of the monumental ofrendas, the Máxima Casa de Estudios has organized contests of calaveritas and illustrated biographical posters, aimed at the university community.
How can I participate in the calaveritas contest?
The call is directed to all those who are part of the UNAM community, including those who belong to the university’s incorporated system.
Continuing with the theme of the mega ofrenda, the calaveritas should pay tribute to national or foreign women who, after their death, have left a significant mark in scientific, humanistic and artistic disciplines.
The work must meet the following specifications:
- It must be sent in PDF format
- On a letter-size sheet
- Arial 12 point font, 1.5 line spacing and 2.4 cm margins on all sides.
- Illustrated Biographical Poster Contest at the mega ofrenda
To participate in this contest, it is also necessary to be a member of the UNAM community.

This contest also focuses on paying tribute to a deceased woman who has excelled in the sciences, humanities or arts. Posters must include the following elements: reason for choosing the woman honored, her identity (profession, nationality, historical context, dates of birth and death), her outstanding contributions, legacy and relevance.
Only original works created exclusively for the festival will be accepted, without having been previously published or exhibited on public platforms or social networks, either physically or virtually. Posters can be created using various graphic techniques, such as watercolor, oil, collage, engraving, silkscreen or photography.
To participate in any of the two contests you must enter the following link and complete the registration form, as well as attach a document that accredits you as part of the UNAM community. You have until October 27th of this year to complete your registration.
The prizes that UNAM will award to the winners are as follows:

- 2nd Place $2,000.00 MXN
