The American sublineage II of dengue serotype 3 is the most widely circulating in Yucatan, according to health authorities in the state.

The Secretary of Health, Mauricio Sauri Vivas, said that, as it is a new variety of the virus, the population does not have the immunity to deal with it.

This generated a notable increase in the number of contagions, placing the entity at the head of the country.

“With this sublineage, which is the American sublineage type II, we have never been in contact with it. It is like with Covid, there was change in the type of variants,” he explained.

He said that 95% of the dengue cases reported in Yucatan correspond to this new sub-lineage of serotype 3, which had not been present in the state for more than 10 years.

Currently, Yucatan has registered 8,742 cases of dengue fever, according to the National Epidemiological Surveillance System (Sistema Nacional de Vigilancia Epidemiológica).

The figure is maintained, with 7 deaths due to this cause and the first place in the country in terms of infections.

The state official emphasized that fumigation and abatization works continue in order to eliminate the aedes aegypti mosquito.

He reiterated that a decrease in the number of cases is expected in the coming weeks.

“We hope that by the end of November, the number of cases will continue to drop, as it has been so far,” he said.

As for people hospitalized for possible serious cases of the disease, the figure continues to fall, registering just over 500, after reaching 700.

The municipalities of Cuncunul and Celestún have the highest incidence of infection, followed by Uayma and Tizimín.
