Following the estimate by the Ministry of Finance of the Federal Government of lower collection for next year, Yucatán will receive 713 million pesos less in the Federation Expenditure Budget for 2024.

The State Government announced yesterday that, once again, it will “tighten its belt” and will proceed to make adjustments in the Administrative and Operational areas, as well as ruling out reducing and affecting the programs that are aimed at the population.

This economic outlook will end the current 2018-2024 state administration headed by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal, who from the beginning of his administration in 2018 applied a policy of austerity, and will conclude his term on August 31, 2024.

The Secretary of Administration and Finance, Roberto Suárez Coldwell stated: “We have to absorb this impact (reduction of 713 million pesos) with greater austerity and contain administrative and operational expenses. We have always done more with less in these years, in 2024 we will have to emphasize this way of working and secure resources to prioritize programs with the greatest impact on the population, such as those related to health, security, and education.

Suárez Coldwell stated that, even with the adverse economic outlook, the state administration will not affect social programs such as Salud Cercana (Close Health) or the equipment and remodeling of 140 health centers, among others.

He added that with all of the above, Yucatán’s fiscal space is much smaller than it was in 2018, when, in addition, the State received extraordinary federal resources, but despite this, the programs that have been implemented in the last five years show healthy finances and efficient resources, which are managed with discipline and transparency.

The second week of November, the State Government will present the 2024 Yucatán Budget project to the Citizen Council for Budget Preparation and Monitoring, so that it, in turn, is delivered to the State Congress on November 25.

Last Sunday, October 8, the state government announced that next year’s Federal Expenditure Budget Project (PPEF) contemplates, once again, cuts for Yucatán, since in 2024 the Participation and Contributions for the State will have a reduction in real terms of 713 million pesos (1.7%) compared to 2023, this being the fourth time that a decrease in the economic package is projected.

The main reason for this cut, according to the document presented by the Federal Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), is that lower collection is expected for next year.

“Before presenting the 2024 budget to Congress, we reviewed it with the Citizen Budget Council, so, for us that is very important, and it is an additional restriction, because yes, in itself it is a challenge to put together this budget for December 25. November, it must be ready before to can work, socialize, and review, and by then we will have detailed figures that we do not have today because we are still determining how much is available, and from there again we have to adjust all the needs”, concluded the official.
