During the morning press conference this Friday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that they plan to inaugurate the first section of the Maya Train, from Palenque to Cancun, on December 15th of this year.

“We are planning to inaugurate the train from Palenque to Cancun on December 15th; that’s the plan,” López Obrador stated.

Furthermore, he mentioned that by early 2024, all 1,554 kilometers of the train will be ready.

“Section 5 will remain pending, but the way companies are working, I believe we can open the Cancun-Tulum section of the train by late January, and at the latest, in February, we will have the entire 1,554 kilometers ready; that’s our goal,” said the Tabascan.

He added that they want the train to start operating and ticket sales to commence.

“What we want is for the train to start operating and for ticket sales to begin,” AMLO expressed.

The Mexican president pointed out that there are still some challenges, such as the construction of the Boca del Cerro Bridge in Tenosique, Tabasco.

“There are some challenges, obstacles. One of them is that we are building and launching the Boca del Cerro Bridge over the Usumacinta River in Tenosique; it has already started, but we’re talking about crossing Mexico’s largest river.”

“They have already started launching the bridge, but it depends on that. Engineers need to precisely align the sections and ensure the bridge’s stability, which will be a work of Mexican Civil Engineering,” the national leader noted.

The head of the Secretariat of National Defense, Cresencio Sandoval, mentioned that there will be an additional 3,200 National Guard personnel deployed in Quintana Roo to protect the Maya Train.

He also stated that there will be five Mexican Air Force aircraft conducting flights along the entire route of the project, stationed at air bases.

Sandoval noted that the Maya Train will have drones operated by Mexican Air Force personnel.
