Over the weekend, the Cempasúchil flower fields in Doxey, municipality of Tlaxcoapan, in the Mexican state of Hidalgo, were visited by hundreds of families who came to buy the traditional flower for the Day of the Dead and also to take pictures with the catrinas that adorn the fields.
According to the flower producers, all weekend they had a flow of visitors, at various times, although this Sunday was when more people visited them. They indicated that they expect buyers to continue arriving every day until Thursday, November 2nd.
However, they recognize that in the coming days, sales will be lower than this weekend.
In a tour of the fields, the flower growers commented that they have a wide variety of flowers, not only the traditional cempasúchil flower, they also offer: lion’s hand, chrysalia, sunflower, white cloud and rose, among others; all of them fresh because they are just cut from the cornfield.
The flower growers placed catrinas among the fields so that visitors can take pictures, which have also attracted the attention of Internet users.
As for prices, Doxey’s flower growers report that bunches are selling for 80 pesos, so they invite everyone in the region to come to the fields and buy fresh flowers for their festivities.
Doxey reports that they have around 40 hectares that were planted with flowers for Day of the Dead and they hope to sell most of this year’s production, which was a little affected by the lack of water, but at the end of the season it did not affect so much, because they managed to get the annual production.
