High temperatures in Yucatan have left 103 hospitalized and six deaths

At the end of the hot season in Yucatan, the high temperatures left 103 people hospitalized and, unfortunately, six deaths, the highest figures in a decade, revealed the General Directorate of Epidemiology of the federal Health Secretariat.

Therefore, it is among the 12 entities with the highest morbidity in the country, due to the number of people affected by excessive heat, and the same position in terms of mortality, due to the six deaths that occurred between June and July.

During the 40th epidemiological week, from the 1st to the 7th of this month, 60 cases associated with Extreme Natural Temperatures (ENT) and six deaths were reported nationwide, and in both cases, none were from Yucatan.

During the heating season, which began on March 19, corresponding to epidemiological week number 12, up to week 40, a total of 4,306 cases associated with NTE were registered, in addition to 421 deaths, of which 165 were attributed to the third heat wave.

Of the total number of cases of health damage due to NER, 2,413 were due to heat stroke, 1,781 were due to dehydration, and 112 were due to sunburn.

Based on the information registered in the state health services, through the Epidemiological Surveillance System of the General Directorate of Epidemiology, Yucatan is in twelfth place in the national table, with 103 cases, of which 82 were due to heat stroke, 20 due to dehydration, and one due to sunburns.

So far this year alone, there have been 421 deaths in the country, distributed in 22 states, of which 393 were due to heat stroke and 28 due to dehydration.

Yucatan was in twelfth place, with six deaths, all of which were caused by heat stroke.

The first case was a woman, which occurred on June 20, and the following day there were two men, and the fourth occurred on July 12.

Likewise, the fifth case occurred on July 17, a man from Chichimilá, and the sixth was a male from Mérida, who lost his life on July 28.

Of the six casualties, five are from Mérida, 83.33 percent, and one from Chichimilá, 16.67 percent.
