Its natural diversity, including beaches, mountains, rivers, jungle, and mangroves, makes it a special place for adventure. Here are five activities that you can do in the state through the recommendations of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Veracruz.
Living nature in this way will take you to live an unparalleled experience. Are you ready?
Canyoning and speleology in Zongolica
In the high mountains of Veracruz is the Sótano de Popocatl, a canyon with a depth of 60 meters and a diameter of 45 meters through which a large river flows and forms an impressive waterfall. The view from the top is breathtaking, but the best part is that you can descend into the small lake inside the canyon and see the rainbows created by the steam from the water.
After descending through the natural rock, there is the possibility of touring the cave, walking along the side of the subway river, and entering a dark and mysterious environment. Towards the end of the cave, this river disappears in a siphon, but you can see some pools with fish and albino amphibians.
Rappel in the Cueva del Pirata Lorencillo (Lorencillo Pirate Cave)
Nestled on the coast of the Tuxlas, in the center-south of Veracruz, 30 minutes from Catemaco, is one of the most unusual places in nature: the Roca Partida. Here you can rappel down the Cueva del Pirata Lorencillo (Pirate Lorencillo’s Cave).
Surrounded by legends, it is said that, many years ago, a Dutch pirate named Laurens de Graaf, used the viewpoints to see the merchant ships which he would then raid and hide the booty in the cave. The more adventurous can rappel down, but there is also the option to do it by boat.
Canopy in the Bosque de la Niebla (Forest of the Mist)
The adrenaline of being suspended in the heights of the Bosque de Niebla on the outskirts of the city of Xalapa is an experience that not only involves exercise, adventure, and skill but also an intimate connection with nature. This practice is done through a set of ropes, terraces, suspension bridges, and zip lines several meters high.
It should be noted that this activity must be done with certified and trained instructors. Many of the experiences have a duration of two or three hours, depending on the person who performs it.
Paddleboarding in Isla de En Medio
Located in the municipality of Alvarado, this small paradise offers white sand and beautiful turquoise crystalline waters, which are part of the Veracruz Reef System, a Natural Protected Area, which makes it the perfect setting to enter its waters and appreciate its marine flora and fauna.
There you can practice this activity which is a variant of surfing, which consists of surfing the seas on a board and with the help of a paddle. This Veracruz destination will delight its visitors.
Sandboarding and 4×4 in the dunes
Just a 5-hour drive from Mexico City, you can find the Sabanal dunes, a magical place that combines beach and desert microclimates north of Playa Chachalacas. In addition to the natural beauty, the site is ideal for sandboarding and 4X4 tours through the dunes.
Although located on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, the dunes cover a gigantic territory of 550 hectares of wet sand mountains, offering a different experience from the dunes of the arid desert. It should be noted that it is also a highly recommended place for photography lovers.
Prepare your suitcases! Veracruz awaits you with a wide array of options for adventure and sports.
