Joe Biden stated that his government is working to ensure the safety of U.S. citizens stranded in Acapulco.

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, issued a message of support to Mexico after the passage of Hurricane Otis, which devastated Acapulco and several towns in the state of Guerrero.

The president said that his government is working to ensure the safety of U.S. citizens stranded in Acapulco and surrounding areas of the port.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and devastation caused by Hurricane Otis this week in Mexico. Our hearts go out to all those affected by this terrible storm,” he said in a statement issued from Washington.

In that sense, he ordered his government to work closely with Mexican authorities to offer them his “full support.”

“I have directed my Administration to work closely with our partners in the Government of Mexico to offer them our full support. We are also working to ensure the safety of U.S. citizens in and around Acapulco.”

“The United States stands with Mexico, our neighbor and friend at this difficult time,” Biden mentioned.

Previously, the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) informed that it has received donations of around 1 million dollars from multilateral banks in response to the situation in Acapulco. The agency explained that the figure includes 500 thousand dollars from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), 250 thousand dollars from the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), and 200 thousand dollars from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), all for humanitarian aid.
