Mérida will have three dancing fountains in the park of the Juan Pablo II neighborhood, the Plaza Grande and the Monumento a la Patria, the city government announced last October 19 when publishing the call for bidding for this public work.
The call for the “construction of dynamic fountains” in the three mentioned sites in 105 calendar days, that is, for three and a half months.
But what is a dynamic fountain? According to construction companies’ websites, they are also known as “dancing fountains”.
“Dancing fountains, also known as dynamic fountains, are a special kind of ornamental fountains that offer interesting presentations. They are larger and their technology is more complex than that of ordinary fountains since they are designed and conceived to create movement. These fountains are usually visited specifically since they constitute magnificent shows of water and light (and music in most cases), perfect to be enjoyed outdoors,” says the company Somos Advance.
In Mérida, there are dancing fountains in The Harbor shopping mall (next to the Progreso exit) and La Isla Mall (in Cabo Norte, on Temozón Norte).
Regarding the new dancing fountains, the bidding process will last three weeks. It started on Thursday, October 19th, and will conclude next Thursday, November 9. According to the call, companies interested in building the dancing fountains must register for the tender between Friday, October 20, and Thursday, October 26, (from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) in the Subdirectorate of Planning and Organization of Works in the Yucalpetén subdivision, in Mérida.
