The Mexican Navy Coast Guard, through the Seventeenth Naval Zone, informed that on Friday, October 27th, naval personnel rescued six people approximately 12 nautical miles (23.3 kilometers) east of the Bay of Chetumal, Quintana Roo.
This action was carried out after receiving a request of aid in the Station of Search and Rescue (ENSAR) of Chetumal, for the search of a small boat of name “Estefanía” with six crew members on board, which had sailed from Calderitas with destiny to vicinity of the Bay of Chetumal, remaining without propulsion for lack of fuel.
Due to the above and with the objective of safeguarding human life at sea, this Naval Command ordered the departure of a Defender type vessel with rescue swimmers on board belonging to the Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) of Chetumal.
Upon locating the drifting vessel, the naval personnel managed to find the six crew members of Mexican nationality with apparent stable health condition, proceeding to provide them with towing support to the ENSAR Chetumal dock.
Upon arriving ashore, Naval Health personnel carried out a medical examination of the rescued persons, who were in good health, and later they were handed over to their families and left by their own means.
