Specialists from Colombia began training elements of the Secretariat of Public Security and Transit of Solidaridad in order to create a Specialized Group to Combat Extortion.
Lili Campos Miranda, municipal president of Solidaridad, mentioned that they will present an initiative before the Cabildo to regulate the actions of this new police force.
“Since May they have been coming, they go back and forth training certain elements of the police and they are going to continue training because what we are going to create is the specialized group to combat extortion. I already have the initiative to present it next week to the Cabildo”, said Lili Campos.
This is one of the most sensitive issues in Playa del Carmen, which is not only limited to the business sector, but to the entire population in general, since this crime undermines the patrimony and tranquility of the people who are victims of these “misdeeds”.
“I believe it will be approved because it is in the interest of the municipality, for our people and to give Solidaridad tools for our people (…) so that developers, investors have the legal certainty that here we have a corporation that will take care of them,” said the mayor.
This specialized group of police will apply their knowledge when the population feels affected by this crime. It must be remembered that although official figures show that the incidence is low, businessmen have stated that they are not reflected because most of the victims are afraid to denounce.
“For the fight against extortion, the purpose is that there are no unpunished cases and that on the contrary, we can work on prevention and reaction when a circumstance is occurring, but here we are going to work on training to merchants, businessman, developer,” he added.
At the moment they plan to have 10 patrols available for this tactical group that plans to combat the so-called “derecho de piso” that does so much damage to the destination.
