The Yucatan Xmatkuil Fair 2023 is just around the corner, amidst the expectation of Yucatecans who are already looking forward to enjoying its traditional attractions, which have been revealed little by little, while others are still awaiting confirmation. Here is everything that is already known about this annual celebration.
This year, the 49th edition of the Xmatkuil Fair will be held from Friday, November 10th to Sunday, December 3rd. During those days the fairgrounds will be open from 8:00 am to 2:00 am.
Livestock exhibition events at the Xmatkuil Fair 2023
Livestock events are a fundamental part of the fair’s agenda. This year, as part of the fair, the 25th National Brahman Cattle Show 2023 will be held from November 10 to 18. In addition, the 29th International Tropical Livestock Fair will be held from November 20 to December 3.
Brahman cattle will begin arriving at the Xmatkuil fairgrounds on Tuesday, November 7. Cattle ranches from different states will participate in the event, including Veracruz, Tabasco, San Luis Potosí, in addition to those from the Yucatán Peninsula.
Bighorn sheep will also take place in Xmatkuil. The 17th Sheep Show will begin on Friday, November 10, with the qualifying stage on Sunday, November 12. The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 30.
Second Lamb Gastronomic Festival
This year the Second Lamb Gastronomic Festival will be held over two weekends: November 18, 19, 25 and 26. Attendees will find everything from the already well-known dishes made with lamb such as birria, mixiote or barbacoa to other less common dishes such as borrego pibil, relleno negro or kibis with lamb meat. The appointment is at the sheep shed from 9:30 am to 4 pm.
Collective Wedding in Xmatkuil
The Yucatán Civil Registry will once again hold a collective wedding on the grounds of the Yucatán Xmatkuil Fair. There, as every year, hundreds of couples of different ages will be able to tie the knot, including Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal among the attendees.
This year, the collective wedding will take place on Saturday, December 2. This program is called “Formaliza tu unión” (Formalize your union) and those interested in participating can go to any Civil Registry office in Mérida or the interior of the state to register.
Artist line-up for the Xmatkuil Fair 2023
To date, the official line-up of artists coming to the Xmatkuil fair has not been announced. However, these are the names that have transcended.
Julión Álvarez will perform on Saturday, November 11 at the Centro de Espectáculos Montejo. This date has not been announced on the singer’s official networks.
Los Tigres del Norte is another group that has been said to be coming. However, the band has already scheduled shows in the United States for the weekends of November. The only weekend in which it is not shown that they will be performing is November 17-19. If so, this means that the singers would interrupt their tour in the neighboring country to perform in Mexico and then return to Texas. On December 1 and 2 they will be in Guadalajara.
It was also rumored that Banda MS would once again close the shows at the Xmatkuil Fair. Their presentation would be on December 2. There are no announcements about this date on the band’s social networks; however, the website states that they will be in Mérida, Yucatán on that day, although the venue is only indicated as TBC, a site whose geolocation on Google Maps is not available. Ticket sales are not active either.
Transgender sensation Wendy Guevara to perform in Xmatkuil
Another of the groups that would be performing would be “Team Infierno” for an autograph signing, according to what its members said during a live transmission last September. The date would be Sunday, November 12, although no time or area of the fair was specified.
On that day Wendy Guevara will present her show “Resulta y Resalta” in Mérida at the La Isla auditorium at 8 pm. She will be joined by Nicola Porcella, also a former inhabitant of La Casa de los Famosos; as well as “las Perdidas”: Kimberly, “la más preciosa”, and Paolita Suárez.
Location of the Feria Yucatán Xmatkuil
The Yucatan Fairgrounds are located in the Xmatkuil Comisaría, within the municipality of Merida. The fair can be reached via 50 South Street.
The first edition of the fair was inaugurated on November 8, 1974. It was called Feria Nacional Agrícola, Ganadera, Industrial, Comercial y Artesanal de Yucatán (National Agricultural, Livestock, Industrial, Commercial and Handicraft Fair of Yucatán) in the grounds of the former hacienda Xmatkuil. The inauguration was presided by President Luis Echeverría Alvarez and Governor Carlos Loret de Mola Mediz. The general secretary of the fair was Armando Casares Ponce.
