Motul, Yucatan – A young man died while performing a routine in the gym when a weight bar fell on his chest and trachea, causing his death.
The deceased was identified as “Álvaro”, who was only 17 years old.
The incident took place at the Golden Gym, located on 24th Street (between 11 and 13), Felipe Carrillo Puerto neighborhood, municipality of Motul, Yucatan.
An oversight by the coach cost the life of the minor.
Data from the municipal police indicate that the young man was lying on his back on the bench, lifting the bar with weights. Suddenly, in an oversight, the coach moved away and did not notice when the athlete could not hold the weights, which fell on his chest and then on his neck, causing his death.
Municipal Police paramedics arrived at the scene, who only confirmed that the young man no longer had vital signs.
The gymnasium was also cordoned off by elements of the Municipal Police and the State Attorney General’s Office for the case.
