The Yucatan State Congress increased its budget for 2024 by almost 25 million pesos.
This increase will be used to pay the allowances for the first four months of the 10 new local deputies that this power will have, which will increase from 25 to 35 seats as of September 1 of next year.
This week, in a plenary session, by a majority of 20 votes in favor and three against, the Legislative Branch approved the 2024 expenditure budget project, which is valued at 281 million 264 thousand 166.74 pesos, which includes the resources for the State Congress and for the Superior Audit Office of the State of Yucatan (ASEY).
The President of the Government and Political Coordination Board, Víctor Hugo Lozano Poveda specified that the budget of the State Congress for next year is 172 million 433 thousand 104.74 pesos, with an increase of almost 25 million pesos, in relation to what it exercises this 2023, which is 147 million 623 thousand 926.
Lozano Poveda explained that the increase is due to the incorporation of the 10 new local deputies as of September 1, 2024, in order to comply with the provisions of the recent electoral reform which stipulates that the legislative branch will now be made up of 35 deputies.
The also coordinator of the PAN deputies described the 2024 budget as “quite austere”.
No increase in millionaire salaries
He remarked that for the fifteenth consecutive year there will be no increase in the allowance of the 25 local deputies that make up the 63rd Legislature, which will conclude its functions on August 31, 2024. The next one will determine the income of the legislators, but the current one will continue with the austerity policy.
During the session it was announced that the 2024 budget of the ASEY is 108 million 831 thousand 62 pesos, said agency is spending 92 million 342 thousand 458 pesos this year.
After its approval, the Legislative Branch will now turn the proposal to the State Government no later than this Sunday, October 15, so that the Executive Branch may integrate it into the Fiscal Package 2024 to be presented to the local Congress on November 25.
On the other hand, the Deputy President of the State Congress, Víctor Hugo Lozano, announced that today he will render his second report of results at the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya, Sala Mayamax, in which he will address the legislative advances of the last year.
