AMLO announces a meeting with Carlos Slim and other business leaders from Acapulco as well as with the president of the CCE at the National Palace.

A group of hotel businessmen from Acapulco, including billionaire Carlos Slim, committed to rebuilding Acapulco, the tourist city devastated by Hurricane Otis, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported on Monday, November 6th.

During the morning press conference, the Mexican president said that the Government of Mexico aims to have 35 operational hotels by March/April 2024, when the Tianguis Turístico will be held in Acapulco.

The president said on Sunday, November 5th that he spoke with businessmen like Carlos Slim, who pledged to rebuild his Calinda Beach Hotel, as well as the owner of the iconic Mundo Imperial hotels and the founder of Grupo Vidanta, among others.

I spoke with the owner of the Las Brisas hotel – Antonio Cosío – and he told me that they are thinking of having rooms available by December 2023; I also spoke with Juan Antonio Hernández, who has two hotels – one of them Mundo Imperial – and they also promise that the two hotels will be ready by March; I was also able to speak with Daniel Chávez from Vidanta and he is also committed to having his hotels in Acapulco ready by April,” AMLO declared in the National Palace.

“I also spoke with Carlos Slim, who also has a hotel, El Calinda, and he promised to have it standing by March. We are just starting, I just spoke with these businessmen yesterday and I will call on others,” Obrador added.

In this context, the head of the Executive announced that on Tuesday, November 7, he will have a meeting with hotel businessmen at the National Palace; and Francisco Cervantes, president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), will also be present at this meeting.

Hurricane Otis hit Acapulco on October 25 with winds exceeding 266 kilometers per hour. In addition to destroying the city, the storm had left 47 dead and 53 missing as of Monday morning.

The Government is currently in the process of taking a census of those affected and by the end of Sunday it had reached 172,000 households out of an estimated 250,000 affected,” AMLO said.

10 thousand agents of the GN will remain permanently in Acapulco

In this context, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that soldiers and elements of the National Guard who arrived in Acapulco to attend to the emergency after the passage of Hurricane Otis will remain in Guerrero Permanently.

Likewise, the Mexican president announced that he will present a security plan for Acapulco, which includes the construction of 38 National Guard facilities in the state of Guerrero.

10,000 members of the National Guard are going to stay permanently to guarantee peace and tranquility,” AMLO continued.

We are going to present a plan for complete security in Acapulco. 38 facilities are going to be built for the National Guard; (there will be) 10 thousand agents stationed there to guarantee peace, tranquility,” AMLO concluded.
