Paramedics from the Municipal Police of Mérida (PMM) treated two people injured in a traffic accident this Wednesday, November 1, in the Historic Center of the city.
“It’s an accident in which both drivers swear they had the green light,” said a witness at the scene.
The accident happened when a hearse vehicle was traveling on 59th Street, guided by a man. Upon reaching the intersection with 64th Street it was hit on its right side by a personnel transport bus.
The strong impact caused the driver of the hearse to lose control of the steering wheel and the vehicle was projected onto the sidewalk, colliding with the wall of a building. Inside, the driver was hit.
A few minutes later, emergency vehicles from the PMM, police, and paramedics arrived, who treated the two drivers who stated that they had suffered injuries. Fortunately, none of them had to be transferred to a hospital.
Moments later, experts from the same corporation arrived and spoke with the drivers, who gave different versions of what happened. However, both stated they had a green light when they crossed and blamed each other for causing the accident.
The police expert, as happens in these cases, explained to them that they could reach an agreement to pay damages together with the owner or legal representative of the damaged building. Otherwise, both drivers would be placed at the disposal of the State Attorney General’s Office and the vehicles would be sent to the impound lot.
The drivers called their respective insurers and stayed to try to settle.
