Crocodiles have been spotted near invaded swamp land in Chicxulub Puerto causing fear among the squatters in these places due to the closeness to the sighting sites.

Due to invasions and new advances in the area, people have detected various specimens of wild animals near inhabited places, such as crocodiles.

The inhabitants of these areas have observed an increased presence of crocodiles near these properties, which has generated fear, as some of these specimens are large enough to harm a human being.

The proximity between humans and crocodiles is a consequence of the invasion of these animals’ natural habitat, due to the insistent activity in filling the swamp carried out by residents of this community, with the aim of having spaces for the construction of housing, which has caused the displacement of various species.

Environmental groups from this port, such as AFAD, and civil organizations such as Proyecto Caracol, have expressed on multiple occasions that, unfortunately, human action has caused various damages to the wetland ecosystems.

The above is due to the destruction of mangroves, obstruction of water passages, and displacement to the detriment of local fauna, so the presence of crocodiles in these areas is normal and natural, taking into account that human beings have been who have invaded your house and not the other way around.

As far as the municipal authorities are concerned, there has been a clear tendency to be against this type of invasion practices, based on the actions taken in the closure and removal of debris from some parts, as well as the constant fight to prevent the advance of more illegal landfills.
