The Great Museum of the Mayan World of Mérida (GMMMM), which has the objective of promoting and disseminating our ancestral culture, has stood out nationally and internationally with important achievements such as its participation in the Second Education and Museums Meeting, obtaining the F@IMP award and hosting the exhibition of the French artist ORLAN.
The space of the Secretariat of Culture and the Arts (Sedeculta) also has an invaluable collection of 1,160 pieces, a window to Mayan culture, which through visits and workshops, aimed at girls, boys, young people and adults, are spreads the historical value that this civilization inherited from us.
Through the General Directorate of Museums and Heritage, whose owner is Ana Méndez Petterson, coordinated work is carried out, which has allowed the GMMMM to be a reference when visiting Yucatán and a place of learning for everyone.
The official pointed out that at the aforementioned meeting, held in Torreón, Coahuila, organized by ICOM – Mexico, the International Council of Museums, the wide range of activities offered by the Yucatecan museum was disseminated and the topic was discussed: What is a museum? creative? Through the General Coordination of Educational Communication and Cultural Action, there are programs to give the school community a comprehensive experience of cultural heritage, which is inclusive and serves as a model for other spaces in the field.
Since January, the number of creative and recreational workshops on weekends has increased, benefiting two thousand people, so families can access them free of charge, learn, have fun and get closer to the knowledge, memories, traditions and customs of the entity.
