On November 6, 2023; Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal met with senior executives of HSBC Mexico in CDMX, where he explained the works and plans that are being carried out in Yucatán to detonate its capabilities, as well as the advantages competitive, logistical and geographic that have allowed the territory to receive new investments that continue to generate more and better jobs for Yucatecans.
Before the president and general director of HSBC México, Jorge Arce, Vila Dosal recalled that Yucatán is experiencing a historic moment, since 2021 was the year with the greatest economic growth in the history of the state and the year with the greatest job creation; 2022 was the year with the highest amount of foreign investment; the safest year in history with the lowest incidence of crime and in which the most tourists have come to the state.
Also, he added, in the Coneval evaluation, in the month of August, the Governor continued, he reported that we managed to lift 236 thousand Yucatecans out of poverty, it is the best data we have obtained in all of history, we are the second state with a greater reduction in the percentage in extreme poverty, decreasing by almost 50%, a figure 3 times more than at the national level, which was 15.7%, which means that 1 in every 2 Yucatecans surpassed this condition; In addition, we obtained the lowest level in the history of educational backwardness and lack of social security and access to food.
In the presence of the director of External Communication and Public Affairs of the banking institution, Lissette Bravo, the Governor highlighted that these results are due to the efforts that his administration has made since the beginning of his mandate, to guarantee peace and tranquility in the territory, allowing more companies to see Yucatán as a safe option to invest and live.
In that sense, he recalled that since the beginning of his mandate, the budget of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) was increased by 81%, going from 2.1 billion pesos to 3.8 billion pesos, which has allowed carried out the Safe Yucatan strategy, through which a new Control, Command, Communications, Computing, Coordination and Intelligence Center (C5i), 6,775 cameras, 219 highway arches and 2,410 traffic lights were provided to allow or stop traffic. In addition, there are already more than 2,200 units that have been delivered to the corporation in this period to make the emergency response and attention capacity more efficient.
In addition to this, he added, his administration has sought to offer security elements better working and family conditions, with a salary above the national average, access to medical care services, including care in private hospitals in case of risk and accidents, We are the first state in Mexico to have a housing credit program for police officers and scholarships are offered so that their children can study at universities, as well as a free public transportation route and discount cards in more than a thousand establishments.
In the meeting moderated by the former Secretary of Finance and Public Credit and candidate for the presidency of Mexico, José Antonio Meade Kuribreña, the Governor highlighted that these actions have allowed Yucatán to host important national and international events such as the 86th Banking Convention 2023 which took place last March, as well as the 17th World Summit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates; Tourist Tianguis 2021; Smart City Expo LATAM Congress and the 13th Annual Meeting of the Governors Working Group on Climate and Forests.
From the HSBC Tower in Mexico City, Governor Vila Dosal explained the important promotional work that Yucatán has had in countries such as China, South Korea, Spain, the United States, Germany and recently in Singapore, where it has been recognized as a ideal place for investment, which is supported by the British consulting firm Deloitte, which in 2021 classified Yucatán as the state with the best conditions to invest and in 2022 the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO) placed Mérida among the first 10 most competitive cities in the country.
This promotion, combined with the competitive advantages that the territory offers, he said, has allowed it to attract investments from all economic sectors, with more than 350 textile, aerospace, logistics services, real estate, tourism, agro-industrial, automotive and aeronautical projects, among others. , with the arrival of large companies such as Accenture, Walmart Group, Tesla, Augusta Sportswear, Invincible Boats, Ace Hardware, PCC Airfoils and others.
Likewise, he presented the new projects that are being carried out in the entity in logistics matters with which Yucatán is being transformed hand in hand with the Federation, where he highlighted the expansion and modernization of the Altura de Progreso Port, with which we will be able to increase the capacity of cargo ships and doubling the number of passengers on cruise ships; the construction of the elevated viaduct in said port, which will contribute to reducing traffic, congestion, accidents, deterioration of roads, noise and pollution in that area.
Another work that the Governor highlighted was the Mayan Train, which will promote economic development through tourism and the transportation of goods and supplies, promoting various industries and making us more competitive; and there is a Poxilá – Progreso Train connection project to increase the port’s loading capacity, making the entry and exit of goods to and from Progreso more efficient.
Vila Dosal stated that, with the benefits of these projects, Yucatán has the opportunity to become the new commercial frontier of the east coast of the United States, which would make southeastern Mexico more competitive.
Other projects that are carried out in conjunction with the federation are the combined cycle plants and the construction of the Gran Parque la Plancha, which will be inaugurated on November 19 for the enjoyment of the entire population and residents of the area.
To address current challenges with modernity and more competitiveness, the Governor indicated that a new public transportation system has been implemented Come and Go, with environmentally friendly buses, universal accessibility and the use of technology for electronic payment, mobile application, WiFi, among other accessories.
He highlighted that, seeking to position itself among the most modern cities, intermodality is being promoted with the construction of 71 kilometers of bicycle lanes and there is the IE-Tram project, the first electric route in the entire southern and southeastern region that will be the only one of its type in Latin America.
Also, he shared other important projects that are modernizing the state, the regulatory improvement with the digitalization of procedures and services for citizens and companies and the creation of a Digital Investment Window, the first of its kind in the country and throughout Latin America; in order to have the adequate workforce required by the various economic sectors and to take advantage of Nearshoring.
In addition, the training of students is promoted, with the State English Agenda to strengthen the mastery of this language with bilingual environments from preschool to university; the International Mobility Program, the Women in ICT Program, with which all those who want to study any engineering career linked to Information Technologies in public universities of the State Government, will receive a 100% scholarship in registration and tuition throughout the entire period. his career as well as collaborations with the Youth International Foundation and Google.org.
Likewise, there is a commitment to education programs in Cybersecurity, due to the opportunities offered by this sector, which is why the state is the first place in the Mexican southeast to offer Engineering and Specialization courses in this subject, in addition to having laboratories specialized in the same field and Robotics programs for basic education students.
