The mayor of Mérida, Renán Barrera Concha, confirmed yesterday that he will request leave from his position to become effective in the coming days, to participate in the electoral process for the governorship of Yucatán.

On August 15, the National Executive Committee of the PAN (National Action Party) presented a survey that defined Renán Barrera as responsible for the Yucatán 2024 Team.

Yesterday, in this regard, the mayor of Merida stated: “Let us remember that the pre-campaigns begin on November 5, if so, I will be requesting the license from the Cabildo to be able to start from that date, which is practically this Sunday, it is close by begin”.

In this context, last night in session the State Council of the PAN authorized this political institute to sign electoral coalition agreements with other political parties towards the elections on Sunday, June 2, 2024, and whose deadline to register them with the State Electoral Institute expires on Sunday, November 5, in the case of the governorship. The PAN State Council also defined the registration period for aspiring pre-candidates.

Barrera stated that the figure he is analyzing is that of a common candidacy for the governorship, with other political parties that would eventually be approaching to make the nomination, and whose registration period with the electoral authorities expires between January and February of 2024.

He added that he hopes that the electoral pre-campaign, which begins this Sunday and will conclude on January 3, 2024, will be a space in which the sectors of this entity can be heard, and that he is convinced that it will mean a first visit to the 106 municipalities of the State, as a pre-candidate, subscribe to proposals, listen to the needs and diagnosis of some areas of the State.
