A boat exploded on Thursday December 21 morning off the coast of Progreso, according to reports from crew members of fishing boats returning from a grouper fishing trip.
The boat, which has not yet been determined if it is a fishing or recreational vessel, was completely consumed, only smoke was visible and it is not yet known if there were survivors or injuries.
The events occurred this Thursday morning, around 11 a.m. off the coast of Progreso.
Crew members of the Maspesca fishing boat that was returning from a trip only managed to see the smoke on the high seas; the damaged ship was completely consumed, according to reports received in this port.
The same crew members reported the case to the XIII Naval Zone of Yucalpetén and Defender-type rescue vessels were immediately sent.
In the fishing sector, there is concern about the events, since there are numerous riverside boats that go out to fish for grouper and kingfish, and they do not have radio communication with the fishermen.
