On Saturday, December 23rd, around noon, an unfortunate event shocked the Villas del Sol subdivision in Playa del Carmen, when a person lost their life inside the Bodega Aurrera supermarket.
A call to 911 alerted about a person convulsing in the establishment, triggering a rapid response from paramedics from Costamed, a private company in charge of providing medical assistance.
Despite the efforts of the paramedics, the adult woman of foreign origin, who reportedly suffered cardiac arrest while in the checkout line, did not recover. Although she proceeded with cardiopulmonary resuscitation ( CPR ) maneuvers, the victim unfortunately died at the scene.
Until now, it is unknown if the woman suffered from any illness that could have contributed to the tragic outcome.
Experts from the Forensic Medical Service ( Semefo ) transferred the body to the morgue, where relatives will be able to claim it after completing the corresponding procedures, as well as the possibility of performing an autopsy to clarify the exact causes of the alleged cardiac arrest.
Until now, the local authorities have not released information on the victim’s identity or nationality, it is presumed that she could be American or Canadian.
