President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that before the end of his six-year term, he will send an initiative to Congress so that all people with disabilities in Mexico have a scholarship that guarantees their rehabilitation.

“We are going to continue forward, delivering the scholarships. We are seeing, because I have less than 10 months left, but we can still send an initiative to Congress so that the pension for people with disabilities, for little people with disabilities, girls, boys, is also a constitutional right and whoever is there, they cannot take it away.

AMLO stated that when he became president there were thousands of programs and what was dedicated to supporting the people was consumed by the bureaucracy, so nothing reached the people.

He said that currently 12 million older adults receive a pension and by 2024 350 billion pesos will be invested in this program.

For her part, Ariadna Montiel, Secretary of Welfare, indicated that currently only in 22 states is the pension for all people with disabilities universal thanks to the agreements that have been signed, between the entities and the government, to contribute 50 percent of resources, each one.
