24 hours before the president Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurates the first section of the Mayan Train that goes from Campeche to Cancún and vice versa, the works on the railway station of this tourist center have not been completed and delays are evident in several areas of the terminal.
The inaugural trip of the Mayan Train is scheduled for this Friday, December 15 and the flagship of the López Obrador’s six-year term will be carried out despite the fact that the Cancún Station is not completely ready.
On a tour of the railway terminal, located on Highway 180 a few meters from Cancún International AirportCancún< at i=3>, it was possible to verify that the roof of the second level is missing, furniture, services, signage, completion of the drainage, main access and other works referring to the structure of the building.
There are hundreds of workers, engineers and heavy machinery who work 24/7 to advance the work as much as possible so that the station is in a position to receive the special guests of the historic inaugural voyage that will be 475.7 kilometers.
Work is intensifying in the terminal building, accesses and roads where work is being done on the landscaping of the medians and lighting.
With heavy machinery, part of the terminal structure is roofed against the clock.

According to authorities of the Mayan Train, the trip from Campeche to Cancun will last 5 hours and 30 minutes, considering stops at stations and stops along the route.
The section that the president will inaugurate includes section 3 that goes from Campaeche to Izamal and section 4 that runs from Izamal to Cancún, That is, the area where there were no environmental conflicts, protections, or expropriations.
Trips for the general public and tourists will begin on Saturday, December 16, at 7 and 11 in the morning, from Cancun to Campeche and from Campeche to Cancun.
The next section from Palenque to Cancún is scheduled to open on December 31 and by the end of February 2024, the president states that the whole route of 1,554 kilometers of the Maya Train will be in full operation. The initial budget of the Tren Maya tripled due to legal conflicts, modification of the initial layout, construction of bridges, compensation, change of construction companies, and costs not foreseen due to the lack of an executive project from the start of the project.
