A macabre discovery was made on December 20 in the afternoon inside a house in downtown Mérida, where there was a dead man in an advanced state of decay.
The discovery was on a property on 66th and 75th streets in the La Ermita de Santa Isabel neighborhood. According to neighbors in the area, the foul smell coming from a house in the area alerted them, and they immediately reported it to 911.
Agents from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) arrived at the site carried out an inspection and discovered the body.
After confirming the discovery, the officers cordoned off the area and notified the authorities. Personnel from the Forensic Medical Service and the Attorney General’s Office were in charge of the corresponding procedures and investigations. The body was taken to the morgue for a mandatory autopsy to determine the causes of death.
