Mexicana de Aviación began operations this December 26 with the first flight that took off from AIFA heading to Tulum

Mexicana de Aviación began its operations this December 26 with the first flight that took off from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) heading to Tulum.

José Gerardo Vega Rivera, general director of the Grupo Aeroportuario Ferroviarios of general and related services Olmeca-Maya-Mexica, pointed out that Mexicana de Aviación will have state-of-the-art aircraft and that initially the airline will carry out flights to 14 states of the Republic, but Four more will be added soon.

“Mexicana will continue to increase capabilities to provide affordable quality service with high standards of safety, efficiency and comfort, always under the premise of serving Mexico and contributing to the development of the country and the well-being of the population,” said Vega Rivera.

According to the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco, the restart of operations would take place at 07:00 and he announced that there would be a remote link from the AIFA to the Treasury Hall of the National Palace for the takeoff of Mexicana de Aviación.

It was in August when the Mexican government reached an agreement to acquire the brands of Mexicana de Aviación for 815 million pesos. The pact was reached with former employees of said airline, who will benefit from the aforementioned amount.

Initially, Mexicana de Aviación would fly to 20 destinations from AIFA, but the routes were modified to only eight destinations, which are:

  • Tijuana
  • Monterey
  • Mazatlan
  • Vallarta Port
  • Campeche
  • Merida
  • Tulum
  • Chetumal

The Mexican airline has faced multiple challenges for its start-up, mainly due to the lack of aircraft available on the market. The decision has even been made to use aircraft belonging to the Mexican Air Force (FAM).
