The new space is a fulfilled commitment of Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal where attention and advice is offered to Yucatecans with government procedures and services for those who live in the United States.

In response to one of the commitments of Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal, Yucatecans living in the United States already have a space to carry out a series of procedures and maintain links of communication and cooperation with Yucatan state authorities and agencies, after the opening of the Casa del Yucateco in San Francisco, California, USA; making Yucatán the first Mexican state to establish an office of representation and attention to its citizens in that area of the U.S.

California is one of the states with the highest concentration of the Yucatecan population.

Located in San Mateo County, this new care center opened its doors to offer support in health and educational procedures, receive assistance and support, in addition to seeking to strengthen ties between the community of Yucatecans living in the United States and Yucatán.

Last May, during the delivery of documentation to men and women who are part of the “Cabecitas Blancas” program, the Governor announced that the Casa del Yucateco in San Francisco, California, would be a reality this year to support Yucatecans residing in the United States and do not want to lose the connection with their families and homeland.

The Casa del Yucateco depends on the Migrant Assistance Subdirectorate of the Institute for the Development of Mayan Culture and has the cooperation of the International Affairs Coordination of the State Government. The start of its operations corresponds to the fulfillment of Commitment 118 of Governor Mauricio Vila, established in the State Development Plan (PED) 2018-2024.

Following the instructions of Vila Dosal, both state bodies work together so that this new office for serving Yucatecans abroad can strengthen the ties between the Yucatecan communities in the United States and in Yucatán, promoting a solid and lasting connection between the two.

The main objectives of this space are to provide assistance and support to Yucatecans residing in the United States; provide information and advice on legal, health and educational procedures; establish and maintain links of communication and cooperation with the local authorities and organizations of Yucatán, as well as the consular representations located in the area, as well as with their families who reside in the entity.

Also, it seeks to promote the integration of Yucatecans into American society and culture, maintaining strong ties with their Yucatecan roots, as well as promoting and disseminating the culture, traditions, gastronomy and tourism of the state.

Some of the services provided at the Casa del Yucateco are attention and advice to Yucatecans, attention to nationals with government procedures and services, the reception of documents for the “Cabecitas Blancas” program, the issuance of certified copies of documents identity, and support in extraordinary situations such as the disappearance of people, or support and advice on the repatriation of bodies.

Likewise, activities are carried out to disseminate culture and traditions through Yucatecan cooking and hammock-making workshops, which are taught in the facilities of the House by volunteers from the Yucatecan community in the area of the San Francisco Bay.
