Andrés Manuel López Obrador today inaugurates the Transisthmian Train, a project around which the Interoceanic Corridor revolves.
The train will connect the port of Salina Cruz, in Oaxaca (on the Pacific Coast), with the port of Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz; (on the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic Coast), in a route of more than one thousand kilometers over the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
Before the inauguration, we present the most important information about the Transisthmian Train:
The route is 303 km from Salina Cruz, Oaxaca to Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz; space where 1 million 200 thousand inhabitants reside located in 76 municipalities, with 788 urban localities, of which 11 thousand 884 are indigenous households and 104 thousand people who live in conditions of high marginalization.
The journey will be 3 hours so that shipping companies can save time and money when the Panama Canal takes more than 8 hours to cross with a waiting time of up to 15 days.
Line Z will allow the link with the ports of Coatzacoalcos and Veracruz, and with the Maya Train line to the cities of Mérida and Valladolid, in Yucatán.
At the end of the first stage of the project, the freight train will have the capacity to transport 300 thousand tons per day.
Coatzacoalcos has a rail connection to the cities of Tuxtepec, Oaxaca; Veracruz, Veracruz; Puebla, Puebla, and Mexico City, through the Southeastern Railway (Ferrosur).
The Isthmus of Tehuantepec Railway connects with the Chiapas Mayab Railway in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, and Ixtepec, Oaxaca; and with Ferrosur in Medias Aguas, Veracruz.
The Tehuantepec Isthmus Railway has a length of 303.3 kilometers, of which 95.9 belong to Ferrosur, between Coatzacoalcos and Medias Aguas. There are also short routes that connect Coatzacoalcos with Tenosique, Tabasco Campeche, and Campeche, as well as with Mérida and Progreso, Yucatan.
In Salina Cruz it has three railway lines: National of Mexico, which links Oaxaca with Tehuacán, Puebla; National of Mexico Division Isthmus of Tehuantepec, which connects the Port of Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, with the southeastern railway network and National of Mexico Division Suchiate, which connects the city of Juchitán, Oaxaca, with Tapachula, Chiapas.
