Óscar David Lozano, Director of the Mayan Train, explained that there could be delays in the operating hours of the inaugurated section.
“This service may undergo variations, but we must understand that we are in the pre-opening stage and that adjustments will naturally have to be made in the operation and, therefore, the train speeds will reach the maximum of 120 kilometers per hour,” he explained in the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
As of this Friday, December 15, AMLO’s project is only ready in its first stage, that is, 30.4 percent of the total route that the train will include, which will cross the states of Campeche, Yucatán, Chiapas, Tabasco, and Quintana Roo.
The Mayan Train will leave the San Francisco Campeche station and arrive at the Cancun Airport terminal.
When will all sections of the Mayan Train begin operating?
The project will cover 1,554 kilometers and includes 34 stations, of which only 14 will be ready in the first stage of operation; These cover sections 2, 3, and 4.
Starting December 16, the Mayan Train will operate with two trains a day: one at 7:00 a.m. and another at 11:00 a.m. They will leave from Campeche and arrive in Cancun.
AMLO anticipates that the connection from Cancun to Tulum will be inaugurated on December 30, the most anticipated section due to the high demand for tourism and the need for mass transportation.
Sections 5, 6, and 7, all built by the army, will be in operation as of February 29, 2024, according to the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena).
