With a traditional Christmas posada,senior citizens of the Comprehensive Center for the Plenitude of the Elderly “Renacer” enjoyed fun moments where the mayor of Mérida Alejandro Ruz Castro and his wife Verónica Cetina Arjona, president of the municipal DIF, were present.

With the request for a posada in which municipal authorities, Santa and Mrs. Claus, the Grinch, and elves participated, played by students of the nursing degree and interns from the psychology area of ​​the Siglo XXI University Center, the elderly enjoyed a great Christmas celebration full of displays of affection, cuddling and applause.

An excellent opportunity to be supportive

In his message, the municipal president mentioned that these holidays are an excellent opportunity to be in solidarity with the most vulnerable people, especially the elderly, who have dedicated a large part of their lives to working for the development of the city.

“One of our primary commitments as Mérida City Council is to provide the best possible living conditions to senior citizens, this reflects the degree of human and ethical value that keeps us united as a society,” he expressed.

Accompanied by Silvia Sarti González, director of the Municipal DIF, and Susy Pasos Alpuche, Head of the Department of Care for the Elderly, the mayor added at the Christmas inn that one of the best ways to demonstrate that Mérida is, and continues to be, a city with humanity, it is through the work carried out by the DIF of Mérida in the “Renacer” center, where it seeks to offer a dignified life to elderly people who do not have a home or family to care for them.

“I am deeply excited to be with you and to see that joy that each and everyone brings, it is a joy that is contagious and exciting, and that drives us to continue doing our best to continue providing dignified spaces for you to enjoy,” the mayor said.

Full excitement at the “Renacer” center

For an hour and a half, laughter, singing, and applause filled with magic and happiness the celebration that the City Council, in coordination with the educational institution, prepared to entertain the residents of the “Renacer” center who did not stop singing Christmas songs.

Likewise, Mayor Alejandro Ruz thanked the grandparents for all the years of life and wisdom that they have given to the municipality, contributing to making it today a city of peace, safe, friendly, and supportive of those who live there and visit it.

It should be noted that the shelter currently serves 22 seniors over 60 years of age or older who were in a state of helplessness and social abandonment. The objective is to provide them with physical, mental, and social protection through accommodation, food, clothing, and medical care services. and rehabilitation, as well as occupational, recreational, and cultural activities, to promote their comprehensive development and enjoy a dignified life.

Additionally, the Comprehensive Center for the Plenitude of the Elderly “Renacer”, the only one in the Southeast of Mexico, located in the Juan Pablo II subdivision, also serves about 300 users aged 60 or older, offering them physical, cultural, occupational therapy and labor inclusion and educational and development, to maintain and optimize a longer and healthier life for them.
