The Navy rescues an injured foreigner on a ship off the coast of Progreso

The Secretary of the Navy reported that on Friday, December 29 one of their vessels rescued an injured person in waters located north of Progreso.

According to the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station of Yucalpetén (Ensaryuk), attached to the Thirteenth Naval Zone, it responded to the report of an injured person, of foreign nationality, a crew member of a bulk carrier approximately 12 nautical miles away. (22.22 kilometers) from Progreso.

The action was carried out when information was received from the Regional Captaincy of the Port of Progreso, Yucatán, reporting that a crew member of the ship suffered a fracture in his left ankle, requesting support for his eviction and transfer to the port to receive specialized medical care.

In response, the Navy ordered a Defender-type vessel from the Ensaryuk Naval Station with Naval Health personnel to set sail.

Upon arriving at the meeting point, the naval personnel proceeded to carry out the evacuation maneuvers of the injured crew member, receiving the first medical attention from the personnel of that Institution. Later, he was transferred to a hospital in Progreso to receive specialized medical care.
