The head of the Mérida delegation of the Red Cross, Mario Molina Esquivel, announced that the institution will reinforce its presence in various points of the city in preparation for the increase in social activity during the holiday season.

In an interview, Molina Esquivel indicated that emergency units have been assigned to transport people, both in the city center and in the surrounding neighborhoods.

«Red Cross is always available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We have four active ambulances, located in the center, in the southern zone, at the airport, and soon in the northern zone,” he explained.

There is concern about the lack of paramedics in the Red Cross of Progreso

The reinforcement will come into force after December 20, once the elements that participated in humanitarian work in Acapulco, Guerrero, return to their regular duties. Meanwhile, operations continue to attend to medical emergencies, mainly during the mornings and afternoons.

During 2023, the Mérida Red Cross has provided more than 2,000 emergency medical services, with a monthly average of up to 300 services. Molina Esquivel acknowledged that most of these services are related to motorcyclist accidents.

«The main problem we face is motorcyclist accidents. I call on motorcyclists to be very careful, especially on these important dates to spend as a family,” he said.

Molina Esquivel called on citizens to take extreme precautions when shopping or other seasonal activities, with the aim of avoiding road accidents or any type of mishap.
