Despite the bad publicity, there is something about firecrackers that become one of the most sought-after products during the end-of-year festivities.Children are fascinated by it, as confirmed by Jesús Uribe, in whose stand is installed next to the former Post Office building, you can get a wide variety of fireworks with prices ranging from 20 to 100 pesos.
“Right now a lot of light is being sold, you see that children use it and for them, we have a great variety that produces smoke and colored light,” says Jesús.
This year, he points out, they are mostly selling sprinkles. “They are products of pure light because Civil Protection asked us not to sell so many products that are risky.”
To sell, Jesús had to take a course taught by the authorities, in addition to having a fire extinguisher, sand, and water at his stand, as well as “no smoking” and “sale to minors prohibited” signs. Jesús hopes to sell a little more these days than at Christmas.
“On the 24th (December) the sale was not very good, there were many of us, but this time we hope that it will be a good day. In addition, we hope to recover a little, since we wait all year so that we can sell.”
Fireworks sellers are aware that in recent years their consumption has decreased, especially due to the issue of animals. “There are animals that are more sensitive to rockets, and that is why they are prohibiting firecrackers a lot. “That affects us”, he points out.
As we reported, the City Council granted 241 permits this holiday season for the installation of fireworks sales stands in the city, 50 of them in the Center. The year-end sale began on Friday, December 29, and will run until Sunday, December 31, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
