The Mexican Army will be in charge of the remodeling and expansion of the Kukulcán Baseball Park.
On Wednesday, January 3rd, during the press conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador held in Yucatán, it was announced that the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) will be in charge of the remodeling and expansion of the “Kukulcán” Baseball Park, home of the Yucatan Lions.
The head of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), General Luis Cresencio Sandoval, explained that with an investment of almost 630 million pesos, the Army will be in charge of the remodeling of said stadium.
With this investment they will build new bathrooms, commercial premises, a room for the players, a restaurant, a ‘kid’s club’ and various other amenities.
In addition, more accessible spaces will be created, with ramps for wheelchairs and a new cover will be built, which will protect fans from the sun and rain.
Kukulcán Stadium Expansion
The project will have the capacity to receive 16,537 people on a land area of 16,752.82 square meters, and a construction area of 36,921.12 square meters, Sandoval explained.
So far, the Executive Project has been sent to the Army and the resident engineer has been appointed.
“It is being analyzed and in the coming days, weeks, we will be determining what work could be carried out for this stadium,” said Luis Cresencio Sandoval.
It should be noted that the “Kukulcán” was inaugurated in 1982 and since 2016 there has been a plan to remodel it.
