Factories in the clothing industry will move to municipalities in that region.
Seeking to expand the workforce base in the clothing industry, the National Chamber of the Clothing Industry (Canaive) Yucatán delegation announced plans to establish production workshops in the municipalities of the southern cone of Yucatán.
The president of the Canaive Yucatán delegation, Jorge Moreno González, announced that the objective of the strategy is to encourage the participation of more people in the industry and counteract the shortage of personnel experienced in Mérida and its metropolitan area.
He recalled that, currently, around four thousand positions need to be filled to address the lack of labor, which has become an obstacle to taking advantage of the industry’s growth opportunities.
He added that the decentralization of production in the clothing industry is presented as an innovative solution to diversify manufacturing locations and take advantage of the potential of employees in areas that, traditionally, have not been industrial centers.
The first workshops linked to the main factories in the clothing industry will go to municipalities such as Ticul, Tekax, Oxkutzcab and Muna . This strategic decision not only seeks to decentralize production, but also contribute to the economic development of these communities, generating local employment and promoting economic growth in the region.
He commented that the Canaive initiative can have a positive impact on the life of the communities in the area, offering employment opportunities and strengthening the presence of the clothing industry in new geographic locations.
Moreno González recalled that, for the moment, the clothing industry in Yucatán needs to fill around four thousand positions to be able to correct the labor deficit they have faced since the coronavirus pandemic.
