Hoteliers are attentive to possible impacts to this sector.

The conflict that continues in Ecuador would bring a drop in tourism from that country to Cancun, which worries the hotel sector, since it is an important market, so they are attentive to the situation, after VivaAerobus canceled its flights with the Quito route .

Jesús Almaguer Salazar, president of the Hotel Association of Cancún , Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, explained that it is an internal situation that will affect the flow that adds to the more than 400 thousand tourists from Brazil that they have lost.

Last year, an air flow of 28 thousand Ecuadorians who arrived through the Cancun airport was reported.

This country is experiencing an internal armed conflict, with violent episodes in the streets, the escape of criminal leaders, and the takeover of a television studio.

Last year, according to data from the Migration Policy Unit, 28 thousand Ecuadorians arrived at the Cancun airport , a market that until last year was one of the 25 countries that generate the largest flow of visitors by air.

In 2022, Quito ranked sixth among the countries that sent the most tourists from Ecuador. On June 16 of last year, the low-cost airline began operations with a direct flight from Quito, with a potential of 58 thousand seats per year; but their flight has been suspended since the start of 2024.
