For the first time in the 9 years of recording crime incidence statistics, two robberies occurred on board buses and/or minibusses of the collective public transportation system in Yucatán during 2023, according to reports from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SNSP) of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob).
None of the victims were injured. Last year, the first assault on a person while driving their vehicle was also recorded.
In the data on common law crimes committed in the state, in 2023 there were no cases of robberies on board taxis. In 2021 and 2022 there were no formal complaints in relation with this crime.
In the report on “Incidence of crimes under common jurisdiction”, during 2023, there were 484 formal complaints registered in Yucatán. The increase compared to 2022 was 5%, with 461 complaints.
In 2023, the first two cases of “Robbery in public transport” were recorded, one occurring in November and the other in December, which were classified as “without violence.”
From 2015 to date, it is the first time that this type of crime has been recorded, as well as “Robbery in individual transportation”, which was recorded without violence against the driver of a public transportation bus.
According to SNSP statistics, “Home burglary” decreased by 29.41%, going from 153 cases to 108 between 2022 and 2023, of which one was violent.
Last year, 107 cases of “Motor Vehicle Theft” were registered, with a decrease of 8.55% in comparison with the previous year. Of these, 65 were motorcycles, 41 cars, and one boat.
In the case of “Robbery against a passerby on a public street”, this crime was reduced by 17.74%, being reported in 51 complaints, of which 22 were with violence and 29 were without violence. In 2022, crimes of this type were 62.
