Cold front causes economic losses in Progreso

Cold front 24, whose effects have been felt since early Sunday morning, caused a low influx of visitors to the port’s two piers. The cloudy sky, the gusts of wind, and the waves caused only a few people to reach the beach of the traditional boardwalk.

The last day of the winter school holidays, which promised to be good because the previous days were sunny, turned into another day of economic loss.

Only a few dozen visitors arrived at the port and for a short time, they left after feeling the wind and observing the choppy sea.

Also, only a few service providers and street vendors worked yesterday because bad weather dawned and the influx of walkers generally drops when northerly weather hits.

Likewise, the number of vehicles in this city decreased both in the municipal seat and in the smaller communities after days of many cars, mainly with license plates from other states, circulating on the streets of this port.

As for public safety, some municipal and state patrols were observed traveling through some parts of the city, but there were no officers in sight walking along the boardwalk avenue.

Today, Monday, tourism workers are on pause, but they are preparing to receive tourists from the first cruise of the year, the “Carnival Breeze”, scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday. There will be three consecutive days of cruises.

In the case of fishing, long before the notice of the closure of ports, the coastal residents took their boats to the beaches so that the storm surges would not damage them.

At 10:55 in the morning, state Civil Protection reported the closure of the port to minor navigation, a measure that once again paralyzed fishing until further notice.

According to this same dependence, cold front 24 occurred with wind gusts of 30 to 45 km/h and waves of 1.2 to 1.8 meters high. Although there was no notable drop in temperatures, at noon in Progreso the thermometer read 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
