This year, eight new hotels have requested permits to establish themselves in Mérida, so the Investment Attraction Office will work with them to complete their construction in the city so that travelers have more room options.
The director of Economic Development and Tourism, José Luis Martínez Semerena, reported the above and added that, of the 19 new hotels currently under construction in the Yucatecan capital, about 14 are ready.
“When the municipal Administration began, in Mérida there was an offer of 10,200 lodging rooms and today we are reaching almost 14,000,” indicated the official.
The tourist influx persists in Mérida in the first month of the year, which is reflected in a hotel occupancy of between 55 and 60 percent, highlighting in this period a significant presence of European tourism.
Martínez Semerena recalled that every month there is an activity in the city and there is a cultural and tourist calendar that they share with travel agencies, tourist service providers, and hotels; For example, this month the “Mérida Fest” takes place, in February the Carnival, etc.
