This Wednesday, January 3, during the morning conference of the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the governor of Yucatán, Mauricio Vila Dosal, participated.
In his speech, Vila Dosal, from the National Action Party (PAN), reported that the construction of the two new combined cycle plants Mérida IV and Valladolid I has progressed by 74% and 72%, respectively, so once completed, the supply of electrical energy will be guaranteed.
“The other issue is the construction of the two new combined cycle plants, which the CFE is doing, Mérida IV and Valladolid I, we are talking about 499 megawatts of capacity and Valladolid I of 1,020 megawatts, we are talking about investment of more than 1,200 million dollars,” said the state governor.
President López Obrador’s conference was held at the facilities of Air Base Number 8 in Mérida, Yucatán, in which the governor showed a graph in which he stated that the Mérida IV will enter into operation in November 2024 and the Valladolid I in January 2025.
Vila Dosal said that the start-up of both plants “is great news for Yucatán since this will guarantee the supply of electrical energy for the next 20 or 25 years.” He pointed out that it was also about the expansion of a natural gas pipeline, which is an investment of 1,500 million dollars and the CFE is about to sign the contract to make this a reality and “we can have the natural gas that Yucatán needs to become more competitive and lower electricity costs.”
